Beyond the Boardwalk captures a quiet, inviting path at Hirtle’s Beach, Nova Scotia — a place where land, sea, and memory gently meet. The weathered boardwalk leads the viewer forward, curving out of sight and drawing you into the unknown, as if asking what lies just beyond the bend.

This piece holds more than a landscape — it carries a moment in time. What began as a visit over a year ago became something much deeper, as each brushstroke brought me back to that day. The sound of the waves, the cool Atlantic air, and the simple rhythm of walking the shore all found their way into the painting.

I remember wandering the beach for hours — the vastness of the ocean, the shock of cold water against skin, the quiet joy of being present. Denise collecting rocks along the shore, Ciara stretched out in the sun, and the feeling that time had slowed just enough to notice everything.

This painting marks a turning point. It was after this day — just before reaching the parking lot — that I captured the reference that would become this piece. A moment that shifted perspective, from simply experiencing a place to wanting to paint it, to hold onto it.

This work speaks to that shift — the idea that sometimes the path you don’t expect leads you somewhere entirely new.
