Beyond the Boardwalk

This piece has been such a journey — from when I first visited this spot just over a year ago now, to adding the final highlights on the boardwalk today. Painting this scene allowed me to escape back to this moment everytime I stepped up to the easel. I remember stumbling around Hirtle’s Beach Nova Scotia, that led us to this boardwalk. Such a tranquil place, inviting us to see what lies around the bend. Hirtle’s Beach was stunning, walked the beach for hours, dipping in the ice cold waters of the North Atlantic, Denise lost in collected rocks while we talk and Ciara soaked in the sun laying on the beach.

When we packed up and cleaned the sand out of everywhere, It’s the first time in years I felt like painting again so I took this photo before reaching the parking lot. It reminds me how differently your perspective can change, when you start down a path expecting to see a beach but you leave knowing you want to become a landscape painter. Let see where this takes me?

Because each piece is created or printed to order, all sales are final. Original paintings, prints, and canvas wraps cannot be returned or exchanged unless they arrive damaged or defective. In the rare event that your artwork is damaged in transit, please contact mike@paintingsbymike.ca within 48 hours of delivery with your order details and clear photos of the damage. We will arrange a replacement for prints or work with shipping insurance for originals.
