Winter Solitude

20x16 Oil on Canvas-I painted this one from a winter photo I took while out testing a Fuji X-T5. I was mostly just playing around with the lenses but this path stuck with me.

What I liked about it was how simple it felt. The trees naturally frame the path and the long shadows stretch across the snow in a way that quietly pulls your eye through the scene.

When I start painting something like this, you end up studying it much more closely than when you first saw it. The shapes of the trees, the cool blues in the snow, the small shifts in light. By the end of it, the place feels a lot more familiar.

Funny how painting a place makes you feel like you’ve spent way more time there than you actually did.

Because each piece is created or printed to order, all sales are final. Original paintings, prints, and canvas wraps cannot be returned or exchanged unless they arrive damaged or defective. In the rare event that your artwork is damaged in transit, please contact mike@paintingsbymike.ca within 48 hours of delivery with your order details and clear photos of the damage. We will arrange a replacement for prints or work with shipping insurance for originals.
