The Barn at Nassagaweya captures the quiet charm of a working farm tucked along Side Road 20 — a place full of life, movement, and character.

After a full day’s work, I pulled in and asked the owner, Khaled, if I could paint on his property. Sheep bleated in the background, chickens wandered freely through the yard, and the entire scene carried a sense of lived-in warmth that immediately stood out.

There was only enough time to begin — laying in the rough shapes and underpainting on site — but the experience stayed with me. Back in the studio, the memory of the place came through clearly: the sounds, the light, and the feeling of being there.

While the property held many points of interest, the barn became the natural focal point — grounded, weathered, and quietly commanding attention amidst the movement around it.

This piece reflects the way a place can stay with you long after you leave it — how observation, memory, and experience come together to shape the final work.
